Karen Brown, the President and founder of our firm, became an entrepreneur at age 18 when she opened a small merchandising business out of her parent's home. Later, she owned a retail store in Kansas City. Karen went on to develop many of her business-building skills at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia (she graduated with distinction in the fields of Accounting and Business Administration). While she went on to become an executive in large corporate environments, returning to the life of the self-employed was her constant dream. That dream became a reality in 1989 when she opened an accounting practice out of her home in Manassas, Virginia, doing payroll, tax work, and financial statements for a single corporate client.

Today, the firm of BROWN & ASSOCIATES serves over 800 business and tax clients from its spacious offices in the SunTrust Bank Building in the Washington suburb of Manassas, Virginia. With about fifteen employees and a fully integrated, state-of-the art computer network, the firm is able to provide its clients with a full range of accounting, tax, audit, payroll, software support, and managerial consulting services at reasonable cost. Professional memberships of the firm include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Association of Tax Practitioners.

In the spirit of "giving back" to the community, Karen Brown is actively involved with local organizations. She teaches continuing education classes at Northern Virginia Community College in the areas of bookkeeping and business plan development, and has been a professor of accounting at Strayer University. She serves on the board of directors of Didlake, Inc., and is a member of the Manassas Rotary Club. Brown is also a former officer and board member of the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce, and has served as Chair of the City of Manassas Business Council.
